THE GREEN SONG she looks through any window she walks through any doorway lady, give me your surprise angel with long blond hair she floats around everywhere lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her she stands on the highest mountain she lies on the lowest bank lady, give me your surprise she's like a miracle she's like a heaven-send lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her one day we'll hold each other like the way we used to know lady, give me all your time but if we pass each other like two passing ships, you know lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her oh, this gold and silver shine oh, this golden band that marks this love of mine someday we'll see each other staring eye to eye to eye lady, give me your surprise but now i'm flying solo staring from the other side lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her one day, you'll take my hand and cross this never never land lady, give me your surprise but when we find each other we'll know that if you know, you know lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her this man is crying silent this man is all alone lady, give me your surprise but we have such precious time before we're all alone, alone lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her one day we'll both grow old and cross this barren desert world lady, give me your surprise yeah, love don't come that easy and love is what we both shall need lady, take my hand tonight oh, and i can see her oh, and how i love her -August 1991

FLASH IN THE PAN i've travelled for a hundred miles can't live for many more the dirt is grinding in my skin and i'm still taken from before leave an empty letter to address my view it seems like the world is empty and shallower than you there is a light emerging from a shadow in the forest dew there is no sight in the evening but a hundred trees we cannot fight the powers overcoming you and you and you we can't tell what's right or good or bad we judge the only few i've opened up a thousand rays of light for the summer there's few who've turned to me in need of life over in the valley there's a hundred points of view at my table i will live my life through you i can write so many words but the picture's sometimes lost i can take advantage at someone else's cost i can pinpoint all the errors it takes to be a man but somewhere down the line it's all just a flash in the pan -1990

(___________) when our brothers took arms and gave their farewell to die in the midst of this raging hell we roll on... as we die in the grey shadows of today we return... to aid the weak we raid the free to die in the hands of the promised land appeals to some not me... where did our freedom go? why has the world gone mad? why do we live as brothers in arms to die for the freedome that we never had? -August 1990

THE YAMMERING SONG I looked around her and I saw that she was laughing out loud aloud to nothing at all but this I said I was a gypsy king and that was just the life the life I never should have lead in this reflection I saw images that were not my own and so I cried myself to sleep and dreamt of thirty years ago when you all were strange but never so bold and aye im just a rambler a man, a boy - that I cant decide but this is all so new to me what did you say when you walked away and said that I could live but all the same you walked away I have never felt so old decrepit but romantic this must be a dream and yet im never so sure what it was you said when you said goodbye so as I sing this song again i'll only think of what this could have been if it wasn’t just the same goddamn thing again -1990

Firefly 04:07
FIREFLY ...poised on a pedestal of gold a token at an auction, bought and sold the severity of a poison kiss and i stare in wild wonder of her teary eyes and take her hand and stare again at the pale blue sky she glows like a firefly in the summer night i sing her a thousand songs in the winter light she speaks like another broken phonograph i see the light shine in her eyes in this hazy night i feel her now in her waking eyes the severity of a poison kiss and look around these shapes she makes a crazy, hazy constant state of constant state of constant state of bliss she glows like a firefly in the summer night i sing her a thousand songs in the winter light she speaks like another broken phonograph i see the light shine in her eyes in this hazy night i gotta be her world again i can see but she is still so far away from me i stare at a thousand torn up photographs and i try and put my mind at ease still thinking that she's far away from me and i don't know what i will do she glows like a firefly in the summer night i sing her a thousand songs in the winter light she speaks like another broken phonograph i see the light shine in her eyes in this hazy night -August 1992

about

Chris Anderson's 1st full-length album release.

After years of daydreams, sketches, and misfires, I finally made my first album in 1992. Using a borrowed 4-track, I started laying down tracks for an EP that was to be called Dialects. I set up shop in Jon Weinhagen's bedroom and bashed out songs like "Taxicab" and "&", and a few other things as well. In fact that's what I did instead of going to my senior prom (a move i still stick by). At the time I was playing with Guido & The Blowfish, which soon morphed into Surface Tension, and I was about to graduate high school as well, so that EP kinda sat on the back burner.

That fall, my first semester of college was derailed when I got mono, and a pretty severe case at that. Recovery was long and, since I was quarantined, I figured I might as well get some music made, whenever I could physically handle it. So I went to work and recorded over two dozen songs. Many of those were tossed off cover versions (mostly U2) but many of my own songs from that time got the treatment.

At first, highlights from these sessions were combined with the earlier tracks and put out on a cassette called April Rose, but eventually it reverted back to the original title of Dialects. When it was released on CD in 2002, new artwork was devised which mimicked one of my original cover ideas, which I would often sketch while in class, instead of paying attention. It's a wonder I graduated.

Anyway, what you get here is the beginnings of decades of musical mania, and it is a very rough stumble out of the gate. The playing is often sloppy, the recording levels out of wack, the vocals cringeworthy. But it's still a significant document, and one for which I have a great sentimental attachment.

Some of these songs, such as "Laughter" and "The Yammering Song" are ones I've hung onto for my entire life, especially the latter, which featured in almost every one of my live performances.

For decades, this set has existed with the pitch turned up way too high. I think I did that on purpose, to try and add some weird character to an otherwise very bland voice. But it also made me sound like I was nine years old. For this new release, that gaffe has been corrected, and the entire set has been remastered, with several bonus tracks.

Even with the remastering, this album is a relative disaster, but it is a fun start to a musical run that is now well over 100 releases. We all gotta start somewhere, right? Dig it.

about

Chris Anderson Alexandria, Virginia

I made my first album in 1992 and I just can't quit. This site collects what came before my recording style changed in 2008. These are the records that shaped and guided me to the music I make now. Often flawed, always right. Newly remastered, with tons of bonus tracks, this catalog is my life story. A musical memoir in real time, ragged and as rough as I.
