A LOVELY PLACE it's funny how we turn our backs against each other now standing silently, we're racing violently back home breaking down another place where we discovered love get your act together they said, better head back home it's such a lovely place such a lovely place, and i don't know she's got a lovely face got a lovely face that i don't know stand up, look back to your childhood ends and i begin again the storyteller speaks a sign and sign, and endless pantomime how did we ever come to look in reverie to our time take me back too long back to the place where i belong it's such a lovely place such a lovely place, and i don't know she's got a lovely face got a lovely face that i don't know where were you when we ran to to that place so far behind i cannot remember that december sky, so cold now we've moved along we're singing different songs way out of key if i could, i'd see you one more time just out of novelty it's such a lovely place such a lovely place, and i don't know she's got a lovely face got a lovely face that i don't know -1/6/93

Privacy 04:29
PRIVACY i walk this subtle monument a memoir of another life a life i left behind pardon me, as i shall walk away and dream upon another day another frame of mind what you say cannot affect me now but what you do can anger so forget me now what you hear and what i say to you may not amount to anything so leave me now yes i know, i know that time moves on flare dog baby has an open book a chapter torn and sold to you resting in your head filthy secrets garnish everyday like everyday was yesterday yeah, that's what she said the passage to utopia is barred and locked for none to see so you may never leave it's just like a lie does not exist unless there's someone to believe yes i know, i know that time moves on walk along and toss aside the evidence of your own lie to forget the past and live tomorrow as a brand new day not focused on yesterday it can never last but if you don't believe in yesterday there won't be another day to be left behind blinders only rose your view the skeptic's criticism's leaving you and, as all, you're blind yes i know, i know that time moves on -March 1993

about

Chris Anderson's 2nd full-length album release.

After putting together the Dialects album, I soon started planning a follow up release. Initially it was to be an album called Chinatown and was to feature tons of special guests but, as usual, that soon fell apart. Most of the songs written for that set were awful so I went back to the drawing board and started adding songs to the list. The tipping point was when I accidentally wrote "Dream Town". I was so jazzed by the song that I was inspired to record it. And so the sessions began. At the same time, the big blizzard of 1993 coincided with my first spring break from college. Since I couldn't really leave the house, I instead used that time to record this album. A couple of the songs were holdovers from the Chinatown sessions while a few were devised during the sessions, and the rest were ones that I had written in the meantime. While ideas came to me often back then, lyrics did not flow so easily, so a couple of songs on this album feature adlibbed gibberish and unfinished lines. Several of the songs from this album were later performed by my band, Carpe Diem and, in fact, this album was the inspiration for the configuration of that band.

While the Dialects album preceded this one, that set was compiled from material recorded in separate sessions and from different mindsets. As such, I have always considered this to be my first proper album, since it was written and recorded as a specific project. I was so proud when this album was done and I released it on cassette, with a cool hand-drawn cover, and I sold it for cheap. Even then, I thought this album was a mess but I still considered it to be important and it certainly led to the prolific period that was to follow.

about

Chris Anderson Alexandria, Virginia

I made my first album in 1992 and I just can't quit. This site collects what came before my recording style changed in 2008. These are the records that shaped and guided me to the music I make now. Often flawed, always right. Newly remastered, with tons of bonus tracks, this catalog is my life story. A musical memoir in real time, ragged and as rough as I.
